Baby
squirrels are like kids, they will eat all the wrong things if you
let them. Solid foods start when the baby is around 8
weeks old. Below is a list of ideal foods. For proper
growth and development, the calcium to phosphorus ratio of foods should
be 2 parts calcium to 1 part phosphorus. If you use this list,
there should be no problems. Try to stay away from the wrong
foods. Contrary to popular belief, nuts and seeds are not good
foods for a growing baby as they have a undesirable calcium to phosphorus
ratio. Nuts and seeds are used as treats once or twice a week.
The best dry types of food are rodent chow/block for rats and mice.
Hamster and Guinea Pig foods are not the same thing. Dog chows
are also good if the right type (no meat and the right levels of protein).
Read the list carefully. The dry foods should be about 75% of
diet. Vegtables cut into 1/4 inch cubes make up the other 25%.
The puppy formula should still be given as per the feeding schedule,
so the baby will be getting both solids and formula until about 4
months of age. |
